This painting is the second in the break up series I did in the 90's after going through a particularly rough break up. The barbed wire symbolizes the self oppression one puts upon themselves in a bad relationship. To try and fit in a place they don't belong for some internally fed reason. I used the female form, specifically the breast as its symbolic nature of tenderness and motherhood. I really wanted the barbed wire to make an impact on the viewer. The swirling colors in the background are symbolic of every emotion we feel.
